Fifteen years after Rebel Music first introduced Kabaka Pyramid, the Jamaican lyricist returns to that same spirit with Rebel Music – The Lyrics Tape. Released via Bebble Rock Music and Ghetto Youths International, the 10-track project brings his conscious reggae and hip-hop fusion into the present.

Rather than simply looking back, Kabaka uses the project to sharpen the sound and message that have defined his career. Hard-hitting production, reggae basslines and soulful touches sit underneath lyrics focused on upliftment, spirituality, reflection and resistance.

Tracks including “Stand Firm” featuring Pressure Busspipe and Peter Tosh, “Rebel Music (I’m Back),” “We Dem Wah” and “Higher Learning” keep the emphasis firmly on lyricism, with Kabaka switching between reggae flows and hip-hop-influenced delivery.

Coming after his Grammy-winning The Kalling, The Lyrics Tape feels like a deliberate return to the foundations of Kabaka Pyramid’s sound — conscious, uncompromising and built around the power of the word.
